The Problem

There is a gap between individual activity and meaningful social engagement within fitness apps, leaving users feeling disconnected, less motivated, and to stray away from their goals.

“It’s hard to keep myself motivated. As someone who lives alone, I'm not surrounded by active energy, so I just kind of don't do it… even though I really want to.”

The Solution

The solution lied in creating an intuitive and familiar interface where runners can easily connect with a community, access social tools, interact with posts, and where data presentation is easily digestible to all levels of users.

Wireframe Sketches

Below are a few of the initial wireframe sketches for Traks UI. It is worth stating that while not all sketches were used moving forward with the design process, all of them were an incubator for a better and more enjoyable end product.

Direct Messaging

Having a messaging platform built directly into the Trak ecosystem makes it simple for users to connect, plan activities, and stay in touch without jumping between apps.

"As a Strava user, I have to say that this is fantastic. I truly understand the meaning behind community when it comes to fitness. Even I feel Strava can be a bit overwhelming at time, so this seems like a great solution."

My Final Thoughts

"I learned a lot while designing Trak. Primarily how to properly design for motivation and functionality, in addition to the best practices for presenting data in a clear, non-overwhelming way. This was an incredible project to learn from."
